There has been a hostelry on the site of The Crown and Castle for eight centuries. The original inn was, apparently, built into the walls of the 12th century Orford Castle but is now separated from it by a little lane.

Although officially classed as an hotel, The Crown and Castle has the feel of a restaurant with rooms, the public space being very limited.

The service is efficient and unstuffy; the restaurant and bar have a truly unstressed and relaxing atmosphere, partly we suspect because they discourage group bookings and large wedding parties.  You can sit round one of the comfortable tables in the bar and have a private chat or converse with other holidaymakers and locals – it really is that friendly.

The Crown and Castle is open all year round for accommodation, lunch and dinner.
