While Lavenham may be traditional England, The Great House is traditional France; there is a no-nonsense dedication here to producing the best in both French cuisine and service without any hint of compromise. The Set menus offer excellent value.
First, you drive through the winding streets of Lavenham which boasts more than 300, mostly Tudor, listed buildings. Then, you pass streets and squares of colourful half-timbered and latticed-windowed houses, all leaning at precarious angles, before arriving at The Great House which, due to an 18th-century facelift, looks suspiciously Georgian in design.
The rear of the house is 'Lavenham secret Jem' highly appreciated by all the Great House regulars: a wonderful patio with a contemporary design with heaters and comfy corners... the perfect place to indulge lunch or dinner and even start your day with breakfast al fresco if you decide to stay over.
The five bedrooms, each with its ensuite bathroom and four with seating or a separate lounge are light and elegant still retaining the wonderful charm of the house. A multitude of modern hidden delights include a mini-bar, espresso machines, free wifi and hifi, and the complimentary fruit and decanter of sherry offer a welcoming touch.
Regis and Martine Crepy have owned The Great House for over 30 years now and the exceptional contemporary food, professional and friendly service and luxurious accommodation has consistently attracted local customers and those from further afield as well as winning numerous accolades and awards: Featured in UK 2015 Top Scorers Sunday Times Food List; it is listed by Alex Polizzi in her Black Book of best-kept Hotels for its no-nonsense dedication producing the best in French cuisine and service without any hint of compromise; Well deserved its three AA rosettes and AA Inspector's choice for the accommodation.
